Water Is Clearing Fast And Action Is Heating Up

8-11 Ft visibility and improving fast
69 degree surface water
Weeds are growing fast
  • Bluegills have been biting very good in 5-12 ft of water. Small worms, waxworms or leeches are the best baits to try.
  • Crappies are starting to show up in the emerging weeds and should start to really turn on in the next week. Use minnows or jigs with twisters to target the ''paper mouths''.
  • Smallmouth action is just getting going and will turn into the hottest bite on the lake this week. Use leeches and crawlers for live bait and expect a top water bite to be coming very soon.
  • Walleyes will start to relate to the new weed growth. You will need to target these fish early or late in the day because of the clear water. Use crawler or leech harnesses and troll the edges of the new weeds.
  • Northern pike will be hanging around the shallows with all the panfish around the piers. I have talked to a couple fishermen that have seen very large muskies following their baits to the boat.
  • Lake Trout action continues to be very good in 70-100 ft of water. Fish close to the bottom and use minnows or small spoons.
  • The lake will clear up very fast this week with the nice weather we have had and no wind. We can expect some really good visibility in the next couple weeks. The fishing action should be outstanding from now until the 4th of July. Don't miss out on the action in the next couple weeks.

Visibility Will Improve Fast In The Next Two Weeks

62 degree surface water
2-4 ft of visibility
Expect great action soon
  • Bluegills in the backwaters have finished spawning and the lake spawners are just waiting for the temperature to increase. I have heard of some nice catches of big gills on the main lake using waxworms or small worms. The east end has been the best location as the gills return from the inlet and their spawning beds.
  • Smallmouth are in the middle of their spawning run on the main lake and action has not been as crazy as it should be by now. The water temperature has to go up a little more and than we all can experience the pain of ''bass thumb''. Expect some great action on leeches and crawlers in the next two weeks. Remember to let these fish go so we can all have fun. Smallies are a great catch and release fish for the whole family.
  • Walleyes have been good to awful in the last couple days. The wind and storms should have provided the perfect ''bite''. This has not been the case. Some fishermen have had action over the new emerging weeds using crankbaits.
  • Lake Trout action has been very good. Some of the lake trout fishermen have been running high lines to target the browns and ciscos. I would start fishing in 50-70 ft of water and move deeper if the action slows.
  • The weeds have started to grow on the main lake and are 3-7 ft tall depending on where you are. As the water clears these weeds will really start to emerge. The mill pond is almost weed choked today. This is good for the bass fry and bluegill fry.
