Lots of Eagles But Very Little Ice

36 degree surface water
12 Ft visibility
5'' of snow
  • The Bay, Beyer's Cove, and the Mill Pond are once again frozen over. 2-4 inches of ice cover these areas, so extreme caution must be used. If weather conditions hold we should have good ice on these areas by the weekend. I saw a fisherman with 19 nice gills from the Mill pond last night.
  • Horner's landing and Derring's were both open today. The inlet has some floating slush which makes landing a boat there difficult.
  • Boat fishermen had some luck last week trolling for Browns during the day and some nice Walleyes were being taken at night. Since the temperature drop, there has not been any boat traffic on the lake. If you go by boat, remember hypothermia kills, so be careful.
  • The Lake is full of Mergansers (fish ducks) and a lot of eagles. A large cottonwood tree on the inlet had 7 adult eagles and 2 juveniles in it Sunday.
