Ice Thickens On Channels And Bay To 4''+

39 degree surface water
Ice on the Bay and backwaters
  • The panfish are in the ditches and Beyer's but are very spooky with the amount of pressure and lack of snow. The bay is full of small eager perch but nothing for gills yet.
  • Cisco are staging and fishermen will be out this weekend looking for some of the early males. Peak time is typically close to the 20th of December.
  • There have been rumors of some walleye activity on the main lake at night. Be careful if you pursue these fish and do not fish alone at night.

T Channel and Beyer's Have Ice

40 degree water main lake
Turnover any day now
20 Ft visibility
  • The big lake will be in turnover this week and the visibility will not be good. The cisco are staging for the big spawn to come at the end of this month. We don't have a full moon at the end of the month this year which is typically the peak spawn time. The bay has ice on it but no one has tested the ice as of today. Beyer's and the T channel are from 1-3 inches and should keep getting better. The gills were active the first couple days and the noise should slow things down a little now. Plastics and spikes were the bait of choice for the gills. The bay produced some nice pike and walleyes last year on early ice so don't be afraid to try tip ups when the ice thickens.
