It Is Time To Stay Off The Ice

Get the boat ready
Don't take chances on risky ice
The rivers are opening

  • If you river fish beware of ice flows when you anchor and make appropriate evasive plans.
  • Big Green's unsafe ice will hang around for a few more days and don't take chances venturing on the lake at this time. Its time to put new line on your summer reels and get everything ready for a fun spring. Check the batteries on your boat and your lower unit lube.
  • Lake is open water from the west end to sandstone. Stay off the east end ice, it will move with a wind change!

Time Is Right For Catfish And White Bass

GENERAL INLAND FISHING SEASON IS CLOSED
Lake Trout-White Bass-Catfish-Panfish are open.
  • Catfish action should start to really heat up with the rain and warm temperatures this week. Tip-ups baited with shad or bloaters are the best way to pursue these fish. Try 25-45 Ft of water off the inlet.
  • White Bass have been on a day bite this week with one fisherman reporting he caught 15 very large White Bass in 48 Ft of water off the Pilgrim Camp. Jigging spoons are working the best right now
  • Lake Trout action has been good between Horner's Landing and the Shale Bar. Most of the guys are jigging spoons tipped with cut bait.
  • Bluegills are starting to come to life in Beyer's Cove again with some nice size fish caught on plastics. The Bay should start to see some action again with the ice melt going on this week.
  • WALLEYES-CLOSED
  • NORTHERN PIKE-CLOSED
  • LARGEMOUTH-CLOSED
  • SMALLMOUTH-CLOSED
  • BROWN TROUT-CLOSED
  • MUSKY-CLOSED

There were a lot of Northern Pike caught the last weekend of the season including two fish over 15#. Fishermen reported numerous fish in the 19''-29'' range. These fish are the result of the carp barrier placed on the east end of the lake. The inlet is currently our largest spawning area on the lake for Northern Pike and Bluegill. There is talk of removing this barrier, a disaster in my opinion for our fishery. It took ten years to get Big Green ''Pike" back and we can not afford to let this happen. There are ways to make access for the Sunnyside residents easier or a compromise without taking the barrier out. The weed mat is a filtration system for the lake water quality and a nursery for the fry hatched back there. Try to stay informed as a fisherman.
