Lake Is Ready To Freeze

36 degree surface water
Eagles are here
Cisco are staging
  • ICE CONDITONS....3-6 inches of ice on Norton's Bay, Beyer's and the Mill Pond. Stay away from the bridge in the bay and the lake entrance to Beyer's. These two spots are never safe due to the 'always present' water current. Main lake is wide open with a little ice on the east end. Horner's landing is snow covered and slippery. All other landings are iced over.
  • Bluegills are present in good numbers in Beyer's Cove and the Mill Pond. Plastics in purple or motor oil color are the best with spikes and waxworms being the live bait of choice. The best jig this week has been the black and green Marmooska. The big gills are present but not real active for the guys staying in the shacks, move outside on the nice days for better action. Lots of small fish for the future.
  • Ciscos are starting to show up for their spawning run. The males are coming up on the Heidel Bar and Sandstone at night and the spawn should peak around Christmas. Glow baits are still the top producer whether its jig-a-whopper or Easy Prey.
  • Lake Trout is closed until Jan. 7th.
  • Brown Trout have been caught in small numbers in Norton's Bay and Beyer's Cove on tip ups with small minnows. The season is open until March 5th.

Ice on the Mill Pond, Bay, and Beyer's

1 to 3 inches of ice
use extreme caution
some fisherman have gotten wet
  • Bluegill fishing has been great for some and tough for others on the channels and mill pond. The light dusting of snow has slowed the ice making process and some fisherman are finding out the hard way that one inch of ice isn't enough. Be careful! Plastics are still the best bait followed by spikes and waxworms.
  • Northern Pike are cruising through the channels and making life tough for the bluegill fisherman. Tip-ups with golden shiners can produce results but be cautious of the ice conditions
  • Cisco are staging for their fall spawning run. The full moon is the 15th of December and should be the start of the Cisco bite. The Heidel Bar will be the big attraction and boat activity will be heavy if the weather cooperates. Remember water temperatures will be in the high 30's and hypothermia is always a concern. Glow baits are still the best option for fast action.
  • Lake Trout are closed until the first Saturday in January.
  • Perch are in the bay but running small.
