- Bluegills are still hanging tight to the cribs and the action on big gills has slowed. They are still there, but ''fishing'' is the answer as compared to ''catching'', as it was a few weeks ago. Some of the gills have moved to the weed edges already but nothing compared to when the lady bugs come to town. The soy beans will turn yellow soon and the Asian beetles(lady bugs) will hit the lake as the gills move shallow for a lot of fall fun. The Mill Pond has some fair sized bluegills in it already but a lot more small fish than eaters.
- Crappies are hanging around the 14-18 Ft weeds and will bite on small minnows or little beetle spins. This is a fun bite and you can expect to have a cut off or two from the pike in the weeds.
- Smallmouth action should start to really pick up with the water temperature drop. These fish will start to respond to minnows and any crayfish imitation as they start to beef up for fall. Spinner baits and top water will produce with the clear water we have now.
- Lake Trout action has already started to pick up with reports from the pontoons boat guides as 'outstanding' on Monday. This bite should continue throughout September until the Lake Trout season closes on September 30th. Minnows and spoons behind dodgers trolled very slow continue to produce. As the cooler surface water pushes down, the white Bass and Browns will move deeper for the high water trollers. Look for these fish down 35-50 Ft over deep water.
- Northern Pike action is fair but concentrated. The big fish are deep and on the feed bag when you find them. They are not as easy to come by but have added a lot of bulk when you find them in 30-45 Ft of water. Big chubs or suckers are still the best bait. For a change up in fishing try some of the cribs with big chubs on bobbers. Numerous fisherman have had the panfish taken right off their hooks by big pike or muskies.
- Walleye action has been average with some nice fish taken this week in deep water. One local fisherman had a 29 inch 'eye' on a big chub fishing pike this week. Weed edges with crawlers or the hard to find leech is your best bet for action.
