Memorial Day Weekend

54 degree water/3' visibility-algae bloom is on
100,000+ pounds of carp removed!
12,000 7-9'' Browns stocked
13,000 6'' Lakers stocked
100,000 Northern fry stocked
1,700,000 Walleye fry stocked

  • Bluegills have moved to the shallows. The most under rated spot on the lake is the bay east of the inlet bridge. This spot needs to be navigated carefully due to submerged stumps and shallow water.
  • Largemouth have started to spawn. Work outside edges of bays and channels for spawned out females and leave the beds alone.
  • Lake Trout are biting good with very little pressure. 55-90 Ft of water for the trollers, and jig fisherman continue to catch fish shallower. Minnows or Sutton spoons with Herring Dodgers have been hot.
  • Northern are still shallow and will bite on any minnow or minnow imitation. Numerous fish from 12'' to 24''. Release these small fish carefully and we will all be catching 30''+ fish in 2 yrs.
  • Walleyes should start turning on with the limited visibility. Cast the East end or West end with small cranks or troll shad raps for best results. We are about 10 days away from the leech/crawler bite.
  • Smallies have moved shallow with the males building nests. Numerous egg laden females have been caught. I saw a female smallmouth spawned out today. Leave the ''lime green with white belly'' males to protect the nests. The females will be dark with a gray belly. 18'' fish are typically 10-12 yrs old.
  • White Bass should move shallow to spawn with the increase in water temperature. When you find them, they will be in good numbers.

Laker and Brown Trout fingerlings are stocked

48-50 degree water
Warm rain
Green slime and cold water

  • Bluegills can be found in the channels,Dartford Bay, Beyers Cove, and close to the piers. There is a lot of small fish mixed in with the keepers at this time.
  • Largemouth are staging. Remember if you keep or move a male bass off his bed the eggs and fry will not survive! These fish will be peak spawning on Memorial Day. Catch and Release instantly if you must fish these Bass!
  • Lake Trout continue to bite. This should be a hot ticket through June. The water temperatures are low enough for these fish to be anywhere. The most popular depths are 35'-100' of water. 3'' minnows or Sutton spoons work well.
  • Northern Pike are cruising the shallow weed beds. Fisherman casting minnow imitations are catching numerous small fish.
  • Walleyes are done spawning and still hanging around the shallows. Most of the fish caught are during low light or windy conditions.
  • Smallmouth have come to the shallows. The east end, with the warmest water, has produced some nice fish. These fish will start to make their spawning beds this week. Please remember the males you take for a ride will not be guarding our fish for the future.
  • White Bass should start showing up at the bridges and windward shores. These fish have no size limit and no bag limit and are excellent table fare from Big Green.

Cold Water Fishing and Green Slime

48 degree water
Cool and rainy
Filamentous algae is the slime

  • Bluegills/Largemouth will be found in Beyer's Cove, Dartford Bay, and any of the channels on the lake and the mill pond. The Largemouth are active in the pre-spawn. The WFT nets are out of the lake. The last pull of the nets showed numerous Bluegills, Crappies, and Rock Bass.
  • Lake Trout continue to cooperate with early season fisherman. Fish 35-100 Ft of water. Live minnows are the best option although Sutton spoons have worked well.
  • Northern Pike are cruising the shallow weed flats of the lake feeding on the panfish which have moved in. The spawning perch are easy targets for these pike. Cast or troll crankbaits, spinner baits, or live minnows over the weeds.
  • Walleyes are finishing the spawning run. Cast small crankbaits over the weeds during low light periods for best action.
  • Smallmouth have moved shallow in the last few days. These fish are tough to fish because of the green slime(filamentous algae). The east end of the lake produced some nice fish when the wind was blowing into shore.

Sunny
General inland fishing season opens saturday

  • Bluegills/Largemouth will be found in Beyers Cove, Dartford Bay and any of the channels.
  • Lake Trout continue to bite in 35-100 ft of water. Shallow water trout fisherman can jig or lindy rig these fish using live minnows.
  • Northern pike are still showing up in DNR/WFT nets. Some very nice females still in the spawn. These fish will be in the shallow water for another week.
  • Walleyes are in the middle of their spawning run. Fish rocky shorelines during low light or windy conditions, the water is still very clear.
  • Smallies have not left their winter habitat in any numbers. Fish the drop offs mid day using minnows and spoons.
  • White Bass are still in the 20-40 ft range and could start coming shallow with the weekend warm up.
